EXPLANATORY NOTE
(This note is not part of the Regulations.)
This change addresses a discrepancy with respect to Table 5 of Schedule 3 in the Canada Grain Regulations. The Canadian Grain Commission previously put forward amendments to Table 5 of Schedule 3 in 2008 (included with several amendments to other Tables). However, this amendment was inadvertently not included. It is required to confirm the tolerance limit for amber durum and general purpose class in Canada Western Feed wheat, and to be consistent with the Official Grain Grading Guide.
Table 5 — English and French
- Amend the Amber Durum specification column to read “Amber Durum or General Purpose”.
Rationale
The Western Standards Committee (WSC) previously approved the new wheat class of Canada Western General Purpose (CWGP), and the WSC approved a motion by the Wheat, Rye and Triticale Committee that varieties being recommended for the CWGP class only be eligible for that class. The intrinsic value of the CWGP wheat is not desirable in milling quality wheat. Therefore, a tolerance is appropriate to limit the amount of CWGP class in grades of milling quality wheat.
This table comes into force on the day on which it is registered.
