SEX OFFENDER INFORMATION REGISTRATION ACT

Regulations Amending the Alberta Sex Offender Information Registration Regulations

The Lieutenant Governor in Council of Alberta, pursuant to subsection 18(1) (see footnote a) of the Sex Offender Information Registration Act (see footnote b), hereby makes the annexed Regulations Amending the Alberta Sex Offender Information Registration Regulations.

INFORMATION REGISTRATION REGULATIONS

AMENDMENTS

1. (1) The definition “special constable” in section 1 of the Alberta Sex Offender Information Registration Regulations (see footnote 1) is repealed.

(2) Section 1 of the Regulations is amended by adding the following in alphabetical order:

“peace officer” means a person appointed as a peace officer under the Peace Officer Act or any other enactment of Alberta and to whom all or part of the Peace Officer Act or any of its regulations apply. (agent de la paix)

“Peace Officer Act” means the Peace Officer Act, S.A. 2006, c. P-3.5, as amended from time to time. (loi albertaine sur les agents de la paix)

2. Paragraphs 2(a) to (c) are replaced by the following:

  1. (a) a member of the RCMP or a peace officer appointed to, or employed by, the RCMP; and

  2. (b) a police officer or peace officer appointed to, or employed by,

    1. (i) a regional police service,

    2. (ii) a municipal police service, or

    3. (iii) an aboriginal police service.

COMING INTO FORCE

3. These Regulations come into force on the day on which they are registered.

(This note is not part of the Regulations.)

Sections 1 and 2 of the Alberta Sex Offender Information Registration Regulations have been amended to reflect legislative changes made in Alberta.
